&lt;p&gt;I was having the same problem and used the option you mention... rmagick then appears to install fine, but when my rails app tries to generate gruff graphs, I get the &quot;unable to read /Library/Fonts/xxx&quot; error again.&lt;/p&gt;</content>  </entry>
